For those of you still on the fence, here is the actual testimony of a Kapaa resident and her experience.
Aloha,
I’ll make this short .
My name is Patricia Reyes, I live on Kaao road, Kapaa.
I called KIUC and told them I wanted a deferral letter sent to me when I receive notice about the meters in the mail .
I never received the deferral letter.
I went to the beach the other day, came home and found the smart meter already installed.
I came in the house and my hands started trembling like a leaf, I couldn’t stop them. I thought what is this? Why am I shaking?
I went into the bathroom, it got worse. I couldn’t even hold the comb properly, then I realized it must be the meter’s influence.
I immediately called Kiuc and with my threat of taking them to court, I got her to agree to having them come back and remove it, although she said she couldn’t contact them “as they didn’t know were they were.”
What a lie!
Anyway I asked her to e-mail me a deferral form, which she did.
I filled it out and headed out the door for the post office,as I wanted to send it by certified mail.
Then a few houses down, I noticed the men putting a smart meter on a neighbor’s house. I stopped, showed my letter and explained what had happened.
He called his boss and then he was told to immediately remove it, which he did with an apology.
He also informed his boss that he had just installed 15 out of a total of 30 to be installed on our street.
And of course everyone’s at work.
Patricia tried to do the right thing by asking for a deferral, as soon as she knew that her street was next on the installation list. But she never received a deferral form. She was under the impression that all was OK, and surprised when she found a smart meter installed without her permission while away from home.
Luckily for her, she was able to catch the installers in her neighborhood and have the meter removed. I commend the installer for his courteousness in this matter, and prompt removal. But what if they were already gone for the day, how long would she have had to endure the effects described above.
Each person has the right to make an informed decision at the time of install, and the right to be there when it is happening in case just such a reaction occurs.
Please KIUC, stop this madness and have a heart for the people of Kauai, there are many with medical and physical health challenges that will be aggravated by smart meters.
In the spirit of Pono, slow down before someone gets hurt.
